Wizards of the Coast
A space designed to welcome tomorrow’s culture
Wizards of the Coast, a Hasbro subsidiary and the home of Dungeons & Dragons, was setting up in Montreal with no office and no local team. We had the pleasure of designing and building a workplace to welcome this new team and provide them with the freedom to make the space their own. The idea was to convey the heritage of brands that have been around for decades without locking in the culture that was about to take shape in Montreal.
Adaptable spaces built for growth, synergy and belonging
The concept is built around circulation that brings people together. Meeting rooms and common areas are open to everyone. The agora, the kitchen and the corridors are more than places people pass through. Every trip across the office becomes a chance to run into another team member.
Materials, built-in millwork, lighting and visual cues form a continuous thread that is easy to read and built to last. Each zone has its own rhythm: focus, connection, collaboration.
The layout relies on a modular grid and clear zoning. Open areas can be reconfigured as teams evolve, without major construction. The result is a framework structured enough that everyone finds their bearings on day one, and open enough for the client to shape its own culture.
This approach responds directly to the client’s three key objectives:
- Support growth, with planned capacity above current occupancy, so there’s no need to rethink everything in 18 months.
- Bring the heritage into the space, anchoring the identity of the Wizards brands in the physical environment rather than surface-level branding.
- Create a place that attracts and retains talent, one that reflects Montreal, in a market where studios compete for the same profiles.
The Dungeons & Dragons room: the brand made physical
The highlight of the project? A Dungeons & Dragons room, reached through a secret door hidden in a bookcase. With its ambient lighting, careful details and staging meant to be discovered, it brings the brand’s universe into the physical world. A candidate who walks in understands right away who Wizards is.
The main challenge: designing an office that can grow and evolve with the company
No office and no local team meant there was little room for improvisation. Wizards came with a clear vision, and we brought our expertise in office design and fit-out. Together, we turned that vision into a space built for today and ready for what’s next: adaptable and able to keep up with the team’s growth without being rebuilt.
Wizards was looking for a partner, not another subcontractor. Our team handled all design, project management, construction and procurement details under one roof, with a single point of contact from the first call to handover.
The result: a space that becomes the starting point of a culture. Structured enough to bring people together, flexible enough to evolve, and true to the heritage of an organization that has been creating worlds for decades.
