Transforming an industrial space into a restaurant despite lofty technical challenges

Le Serpent is a modern, welcoming space that occupies part of the Darling Foundry in Montreal. The restaurant’s marble-covered poured concrete bar and dining room spread out between a window-dominated facade and a new smaller space housing the kitchen and service rooms: This steel structure covered by carbonized wood had to be carefully coordinated to ensure that the plumbing, drainage, water, electricity, gas, cooling and ventilation systems would fit. The high-level finishing, the quality of the execution and the undeniable charm of this space won Le Serpent a Grand Prix du Design award in the category for restaurants over 2,000 ft2 in size.
